Healthy Eating - Want to Join

I have been on loads of different diets - Atkins, Low Carb, Low Fat and Calorie Counting. Have stuck to them all fairly well and lost my body weight several times over but always gained it back. I have also found that this type of yo-yo dieting has affected my health and I now have problems with certain foods.

I am intending to start eating healthily by making the majority of my meals from scratch and including lots of fresh ingredients. I am not going to calorie count or cut out major food groups. My intentions is to cut back on portion sizes in the long term and gradually increase my exercise. Hopefully this will lead to a gradual weight loss that will actually stay off. Have done a lot of research reading and think this may be the way to go.

I was hoping some other failed dieters might want to join me. One area that I feel that I need support is where to get the best priced foods particularly vegetables. My other area of support is quick and healthy recipes particularly breakfast.

  • This is what I've started to do as well.

For breakfasts I've started having a dollop of natural yoghurt with fruit. Or Weetabix. That's basically all I have time for but as I don't usually eat anything before work then hit the snacks mid-morning. It may sound a bit boring but I like it and it's keeping me going till lunchtime.

i have porridge for brekkie- i cant eat breakfast too early in the day or it makes me feel nauseous- so i have it about 8.30-9am, when i've already been up for at least 2 hours

I also add a couple of those little boxes of dried fruit to it, and it does stop me picking :-)

I need to start eating healthier too but have been lacking some motivation. I do well for a couple of days and then it goes pear-shaped, so as from tomorrow (15th Jan) I am going to start afresh :). (Makes me feel more determined now that I have written it down). I don't have a great deal of weight to lose, but need to tone up following the birth of DS2 (who is almost 6 months old) and the only way to do this is to be more disciplined.

I already cook from scratch and use fresh ingredients where possible. I make the most of the offers in the supermarket when they sell vegetables 2 for £1.00 such as swede, cabbage, leekes, broccoli etc as I tend to use them to make more stews/soups and it's a good way for our family to get our 5-a-Day.

In terms of breakfast, I only tend to have toast at the weekends and will now have porridge with banana or museli during the week as it fills me up more and makes me less likely to snack mid morning.

I have never followed any diets as such because I don't want to eliminate certain foods or count calories, however the one thing I need to do is to stop snacking. I tend to snack unhealthily in the evenings after I have had my tea, so I am going to try and stop snacking in the evenings as it has become more of a habit rather than me feeling hungry and needing the food.

I am already increasing the amount of excercising that I do and aim to do a 45 minute walk at least 4 times a week in the evenings (once the children are in bed). It makes me feel better and a good walk clears my head.
