Chopped tinned tomatoes.
cant believe how much these basics have gone up lately.
So, we bought some from Aldi. 39p a tin and very suprised.
lovely thick and chunky, not watery. Excellent. Wont be buying anything else now, and very fussy!:T:T

I totally agree plus for the same price you can either get plain ones and ones with herbs in for bolognese and believe it you can actually taste the difference between which ones I use the herbs are quite strongLBM - 3/12/11 :idea:

I have actually started planting my own tomatoes and when they are grown i am going to pur!e them and freeze them in batches of 400ml... figured that would be much cheaper... and as i only use chopped tomatoes for sauces and soup it works well.
(i have bought 2 packs of tomatoes from aldi the other day just to make sure this works :-/)0 -
Some Asda stores have KTC tomatoes (both peeled plum and chopped) in the "foreign brands" section (I'm not sure of its actual name, but where they keep the Polish and Asian brands) for 30p per tin. They've also got other KTC products like red kidney beans for 27p. I've seen these in both the Havant and Bletchley stores.
Tesco did previously do East End tomatoes for about 27p, but they've now gone up in price.0
