  • Your post would seem to suggest you were planning to wait for the debt to be statute barred.

I'd have to ask the question why you haven't made any effort to pay this debt off, particularly if you planned to apply for Citizenship at some point? Your post includes in the criteria for refusing Citizenship:

"But where an applicant deliberately and recklessly builds up debts and there is no evidence of a serious intention to pay them off, the application should normally be refused."

Given your statement, how will you answer this?

  • You have tried to hide from your debts, that you knowingly incurred. I would rather you didn't become a British Citizen thank you.

If you had said that you had a huge debt, that you were still paying off slowly, I would applaud you for helping out your brother.

But you wanted the money, but not to pay it back, and therefore everyone else pays a little bit more on their interest rate - because of you hiding from your responsibilities.

No you should not even be applying to become a British Citizen, until you can manage to be an honest person.

NO wonder we have idiots who buy the daily mail/express when we have people like you..
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

OK then Arrmani - how about this.

Get in contact with the creditor(s) you owe the money to, explain that you had some difficulties, but are now in a position to repay the money on a gradual basis.

Set up a repayment plan with them for say £400/month, which should clear the debt in about 4-5 years.

Be up front and honest with your contact/case officer at the Home Office.

The above is good advice, your honesty will be appreciated, by both your creditor(s) and the Home Office.

You won't be getting any advice on how to avoid paying back this money THAT YOU OWE.

Heavily edited OP there - he actually owes over £20,000 and is hoping it will become statute barred before his application goes through.

Is there not some "hidden rule"that the taxpayer will cover the unpaid debts of anyone applying for citizenship here??:whistle:

If he behaves like this I hope he is told to !!!!!! off back to where he came from. We need immigrants, yes, but not ones like this.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

Maybe I can rip the OPs parents off for £20000 and still date his sister. Would that be OK with you OP? :)
