Edinburgh stop smoking hypnotherapy - any recommendations?

Other half is trying to stop smoking. We both tried last December by cold turkey which was successful for me. Since then she has tried Champix tablets from GP, gum and those electronic cigarettes, nicotine patches, been to some smoking cessation groups but is now researching hypnotherapy.

Wondering if anyone knows of any Edinburgh (central) hypnotherapists that maybe friends or family have used and found to be good help.

I know that everyone's different but there's so many out there I'm just looking for a recommendation. Doesn't necessarily have to be the cheapest as she is willing to spend what's required if it's going to help her stop, reasonable rates and maybe an extra session included if required.

Thanks in advance.

  • I strongly suggest you ask your other half to read Allan Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking...the problem is purely mental (once the nicotine withdrawal effects wear off after 3-4 days). Also its a good idea to smoke whilst reading the book, makes it more fun:p [seriously]

In the worst case scenario, your OH will quit for a few days/weeks/months after reading the book and then smoke more heavily than ever...in that case get in touch with one of counsellors listed in the back of the book...i think they charge around 1000 quid for a 1 to 1 session but that's a one off fee and they will offer your wife however many sessions she needs to stay off the cancer sticks FOR LIFE! :)

I went to David Stocks in Dalgety Bay a couple of years ago for another reason, but I know he does a range of things

She's already read the book years ago. It seems she doesn't want to stop.

I don't know what it's gonna take for her to quit. She went to the dentist and they were concerned about something they saw.

She has a biopsy taken and the cells were abnormal and changing so they told her to stop, so that day we both quit. Her next hospital checkup they said that the problem wasn't there.... so she started smoking again in secret (thinking she would get away with it since the Dr said she was ok now)

All the hypnotherapy things I read say that the willpower and the desire to quit has to be there... I guess it isn't.

Dreading her next dental appointment :(

Ahhhh....seems like your OH is a hardcore smoker, just like i was. In that case ask her to read this:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Smoking-Permanently-Penguin-Health-Fitness/dp/0140244751/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

If (and its a big if), that book has no effect whatsoever on her (or perhaps she's already read the book) then i suggest you ask your OH to go down the counselling route with Allen Carr - they offer a money back guarantee so nothing to lose. I would pay more and go for the one to one sessions to increase the chances. They even offer fag breaks at the sessions:rotfl:
