Yesterday I posted a thread on Open Source (Freeware Programmes).
It has been pointed out that MSE has a section on this which I have looked at, it's good, and my opening C Cleaner software is already listed.

OK. Here comes some that are not listed.

Protecting Your Children On The Net

It's impossible to permenantly stand over your kids and watch what they get up to on the internet, I have two that have laptops and K9 Web Protection has been a godsend.
This is what it does:
K9 Features to protect your children:
  • Web site blocking by category, including pornography, illegal drugs, personals/dating, violence/hate/racism
  • Easy pre-set levels to choose from depending on the age of your children
  • SafeSearch enabled on all search engines to show cleaner search results
  • Time restrictions, including NightGuard(tm), to disallow internet access during designated times
  • Custom “always allow” and “always block” lists for your personal preferences
  • Ability to override a block with the parent password
  • Tamper resistant for more savvy kids
  • Reports showing activity to categories of web sites
  • Real-time categorization of new web sites
  • Compatible with Windows or Mac machines
Yes they bring their machines to me regularly (usually in a huff) for me to OK a site for them to look at but I would rather it be that way than find out (as some parents do) the awful truth when it's too late.
Find it at:

    Point taken.

    1. As far as I can see, I can't, I can only join a forum not post any new items.
    2. People that have replied to my original post (yesterday) seem to think that adding new Freeware here once a week is not a bad idea.

This is a new post and it's free

    Best regards

K-9 has been around for a few years now - it has also been well pubicised on the forums and also in the Child friendly Websites and comunities thread and in the Controlling family internet access thread - I set you a challenge - to find something new and good that hasn't yet been poted on MSE :)

    Good Luck
    To infinity and beyond!

    Hi Mike.

Yes the ones that I am listing are the ones that I know so well and I am sure that many people on MSE have not heard of them.

You obviously like me are Freeware Savvy (congratulations)
    I salute you sir:j

Always up for a challenge though... watch this space. Will post a new one next week and then some favourites.

    Regards

PS. I did use the search bar on the whole site for K9 and it didn't show anything up.

I disagree. We should have a "Whataguy Freeware of the Week" post. Very useful IMO.

but posted in the right forum
  • the best way to protect your children on the internet is to have them use their computers in a room where you are, when they get to a certain age they will probably know enough to by-pass anything you install
  • The talktalk protection is very good if you are a tt customer. I know it ios good as the kids complain so much about it blocking them!
    To infinity and beyond!
  • i think this is a good forum for it to be in IMO
