Week ending 7 January
So far I have applied online for 5 jobs and sent my CV to 10 agencies. No responses to applications, few emails from agencies.
Too soon for any responses, assuming you sent these in the last week.
Most companies were only open 3 (Scotland) or 4 (England/Wales) days this week and it seems to take people at least a week to get going again after a week off.
Some companies were still on a shutdown last week as well.
Last week was very quiet - I averaged 6 emails and a couple of phone calls per day last week.
Normally I get 30+ emails and my phone never seems to stop ringing.
Next week should start getting busier again.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -

Most definitely.GoldenJill wrote: »Thanks Claire - great it's working out for you and to hear some positivity. Where are you and what jobs do you do?
I am moving back to Scotland and will be seeking office roles - PA, EA office manager etc..
Im in the South East of England. I used to work in fashion buying, now Im trying to get into more product development manager roles, or store management. Whilst I wait for my 'perfect' job Im doing temp stuff.
Ive signed up to lots of websites and they send me updates of new jobs posted that Ive set filters to for location, pay, role etc. Some are through agencies, others are direct from employers.
The one Ive had the most calls from is cvlibrary.co.uk0 -
The job market in Scotland really isn't great at the moment. Although I'm working, I'm looking for a better paid and more challenging job in Admin based in the West of Scotland and there's not a great deal out there.
I'm not sure if anyone has told you about s1 jobs.com - it's probably the best website for jobs in Scotland. I have to say my experiences with agency jobs haven't been very encouraging. My hit rate has been far higher when applying for jobs direct.
The Job Centre website isn't particularly great but you do still get the odd little gem popping up from time to time, so it's worth checking it regularly too. You can set it up to search for jobs in specific areas which I find useful.
Good luck!0 -
Hi
Thanks for comments all.
Yes I am aware of S1 jobs and use it every day along with many agencies websites and all the other search engines for work.
Have had two responses from agencies asking me to call them, although being in Sydney it's challenging due to UK being 11 hours behind Australia and not having a home landline. However, no response to my job applications.
I can and will wait and just see - but being proactive as I possibly can. On every job site every day and sending my CV off to as many jobs that I feel I have suitable experience.
Here's hoping and staying positive!
3.5 weeks until I return to the land of ice and snow from perfect 30 degree light breeze and unbroken sunshine of Sydney!
