Confused with Self Assesement - Payment on Account:(

Hi all I'm currently helping my mother fill in the tax return. She's unemployed but receiving income from property rent. From what I've understand the Payment on Account is what you pay in advance for the next year tax year. So for 2009/10 (Shown Below) she had to pay £1,298.10 tax plus half the Payment on Account of £649.05 for 2010/2011, she then paid the other half before 31 July.

When I completed the Tax return for 2010/2011 it shows (See Below) that she would have to pay £1,290,20 then a payment On account for 2011/2012.

My question is shouldn't the amount of £1,290,20 be £0 because She already paid the amount the previous year via the Payment on Account? I assumed she would only have to pay the Payment on account for 2011/2012 on Jan 31st the the rest before the 31st July?

Thanks in Advance.

Yes she will only have to pay the payment on account

The statement states that the amount due does not take into account the payments on account for 2010/11

The online SA system is offline to the main SA accounting system. So you have to file the Return and then give it at least overnight (longer at weekends) in order to drag back the payment data to the online view.

But it does clearly tell you that - at the filing point - POAs are not reflected. You've even pasted that info!

oh I understand now, thanks for clearing that up. I did read that sentence but for my mind was probably half asleep.

I'll submit it now, thanks again :-)

If you then give it until Tuesday -it will show you the true payment position.
