No we dont have joint accounts, he is only applying to Nationwide as this is his current lender and it is a sole application. Nationwide at their request asked him to provide a letter to confirm I am not dependent on him (something which I am not) and has met their other requests equally. He tried to get his credit report on Equifax the other day but after having to call them they advised him that he needed to send them copies of his driving license?? He isnt having much luck at the mo. Who are the 3 credit agencies please??

    Thanks for your responses.

One more thing, if he contacts the credit agencies and dissociates himself with me, how long will that process take?? He is in limbo, not knowing whether to dis-continue with the sale of his current house and lose the buyer or go through the process to dissociate with me and then make another application in time to still be able to buy the home that he has put an offer on??

Equifax and Experian are the main two. As far as I know it takes a little while for credit files to be updated (1-3 months), this may be different if it is being done by the credit agency themself though.

I would apply elsewhere at least you will know then if its going to be a big enough problem to maybe halt the sale of his property. Its not going to cost anything to get a decision in principle with another lender.

When he originally applied to Nationwide were you stated as living in the property?

He has lived at his address for 10yrs and Ive only been on the scene for 3 yrs so when he switched his mortgage 4yrs ago I wasnt on the scene. When we spotted a the new house we applied for the mortgage together but that was declined on the basis of my credit being terrible (I think he applied to ING - I think). His mortgage adviser suggested applying with Nationwide as a sole application which is where we are now. I think the reason he went back to them was given his good history with them.

    Thanks for your response

I would guess that's where the 'association' has come from.

Is that still an association that I can still be removed from a credit file??

    Thanks

The best people to advise on the 'net are probably over on Consumer Action Group forums. They have different forums, one of which deals with helping people with debt collection agencies, and reference agencies.

I'm guessing that as you don't actually have a joint account, or a joint credit agreement then the agency will remove the association for him. It will just take time.

As said the guys over there know all the jargon and are best placed to advise.

Ok I will check those forums out now. He had a call from Nationwide yesterday who confirmed they have received his letter that it has been handed to someone to review the case then get back to him in 48hrs, fingers crossed.

    Thanks
