Flower budget

One of my bridesmaids is going to do my flowers - she's going to arrange my bouquet and my four bridesmaids. I'm going to try and find a local wholesaler to get some seasonal flowers from. Any ideas how much to *roughly* budget if doing it this way?0

Liz, I am doing my own flowers and I am ordering them from triangle nurseries. My sister recommended them and they have been fantastic. They stick to your budget and suggest flowers etc. When do you get married and what flowers do you like? Any idea of style/colours? MeganMay GC - £100 per week

Hi Trinity,
I was the same as you - I simply didn't have any idea how to budget! I decided at the last minute to get flowers for the tables and I am really glad I did. We went with traditional rings of flowers on the tables, in pink and red, and on the main table. They really made the place, and I am SO glad I decided to go with them in the end.
I had a bouquet for me and my sister (one larger), which were about 65 and 50 I think. 2 coursages for the mums (£15 each), 10x buttonholes (£5 each) which were great. All the men used them, as well as my (male) friend who did my hair. The florist also threw in for free a lovely little basket for my flower girl to hold.
Then 9 regular table displays, 1 big one, and two big sprays at the church. Then 10 flowers to match my flowers were added at the last minute to decorate the cake.
The venue used the flowers again for our breakfast, we took home all the table displays. We had a party at the house the next day we used them there, and then some people took them home. They lasted for ages, and it was good that a few people could enjoy them for more than the day.
All in they cost about £650 from a local lady (in West London). I thought it was a great deal actually! Including delivery to the church and the venue in town. I went to a few places, but this lady was really close, and while her shop is pretty low key she was so helpful, and got exactly what I wanted, despite me being very unclear about it! pm me if you want details.
Hopefully these pictures work - I always have such trouble with pictures on this site!

Rainbow Drops, your flowers are gorgeous! I love your jam jars of sweet williams - how many did you have for your venue?
I think there were 12 tables - we had one on each of the round tables, and two on the long tables. Then a slightly bigger one on the top table, that was about £20.
I didn't want massive fussy arrangements, as I thin they clutter the table, and tall ones make it hard to see people sitting opposite.0 -

Thanks Megan. I'm getting married 7th July. I literally have no idea about flowers- I'll have to ask my friend who's going to do them. Main thing is to get in-season ones. Is there delivery expensive though?0 -
£20. Do you have any colours for your wedding? Any flowrs you like? Or any your family like? MeganMay GC - £100 per week

Thanks. I guess £20 isn't too bad considering the saving you make on the flowers? I'm having purple and cream as my colour scheme. I like pinks as well, so I'm hoping those would work into bouquets ok.0

Hope you don't mind me jumping but I have a friend who is a florist and have helped her over the years with weddings (not doing the flowers !! ) but what I have found listening to her is that a bride will go to her and want say the bridal bouquet in one kind of flower, then different flowers for the bridesmaids bouquets and then different ones again for the corsages and then even different ones for the arrangements (OK I know this might sound extreme but ! ) I have seen it happen. Of course the cost for this is going to be higher because as they have to buy in so many different flowers and they have to cover the wastage whereas if the same theme is carried through all the flowers then they can use all the flowers in each of the arrangements and so on; so can I suggest when you are thinking of what you want and you want to keep the cost low - be simple, seasonal and consistent.
Over the last twelve months I have seen her do simple wedding flowers for the bride and bridesmaids for less than £50; a wedding where they only wanted a simple wrist corsage for the bride and a table arrangement which cost about £100 because of the flowers used were exotic and several which cost around £2000 which used exotics and had flowers wherever they had a spare space! and all variations inbetween ..............
Look at the internet - the interflora website has bouquets and stuff which would give you a rough idea of cost and an idea of what you can get for your money.
To keep the cost low keep it seasonal and simple.0 -
Liz, you will find it really easy to find flowers in cream, purple and white. I found, as per the above, that ordering via triangle means you have to order minimum amounts of each type of flower/greenerey. For example, sometimes you have to order 10 stems of a flower and sometimes 50! That siad, I have ordered enough for my bouquet, 3 x wirst corsages for the little girls, 6 button holes for the boys and several table arrangements for £200, including delivery and all the required extras. I found them extremley helpful - they didn't mind me changing my mind loads and they were VERY helpful with guiding me.
Depending on whether you wanted something sleek and sophisticated - perhaps just cream roses with some purple delphinium or something more cottagey - hydrangers, hock, delphinium, roses all in shaes of creams, pinks and blues with greenery I am sure you will find something suitable.
