Free Windows PC Cleaner

Hi Everyone.
Money Saving Expert is a fantastic website and although I am new to it I am really enjoying all the great information on it.
For many years now I have been testing and using what is known as Freeware. These are free down loadable computer programmes created by techies who didn't want to go to there local computer store and pay for expensive off the shelf equivalents - and then best of all they put them out there for all to download and enjoy for free.
As I said I have tested them all and any I post on here will all be virus and malware free.
With the site and your permission I would like to share some of the very best that I have found with you.
I have no connection with any of the writers of these programmes and any posted will cost nothing, they have all been found through research and I have been sharing Freeware on a weekly basis through a radio programme for about 3 years
First post is for a free Windows PC Cleaner called C Cleaner found here:
www. piriform.com/ccleaner/download
(download the free version)
As a new member could some bump the un-edited URL for me:o
Install is easy and there are regular updates, it may take a while the first time you use it, if you don’t clean out your PC regularly but afterwards you should find your computer runs a lot faster.
This programme will not delete anything vital to running your PC.

Try it again after you have been surfing comps for a while and then see how much rubbish your machine collects.
If you like this idea I will post a new one weekly.
Best Regards
Whataguy:D

Thanks for trying ti help out but it is always a good idea to search the forums and site first before posting in case somebody has got there first :)

FYI Ccleaner has been well documented already on MSE in the Free Software article and the forum search lists 56 threads with the word ccleaner in the title.
    To infinity and beyond!

    Hi Mike,

Thank you for the post. MSE is avery busy site and I have obviously missed the section of Open Source, Freeware and Shareware.
Needless to say I have taken a look via your link and can see that C Cleaner is clearly included.

I suppose that re-enforces where I am coming from with the idea of the posts, the fact that Freeware can save a computer user a lot of money.

Perhaps you and others can tell me wether this section of MSE is the right place for it to run?
Obviously looking through the selection already on the site (a lot of which are very good) it seems to be a little behind the times (if I might say so, and certainly no offence meant) and there are really some excellent programmes out there.
    I am happy to continue.

    Thanks for the reply.

    Best regards
    Whataguy

P.S. My PC runs nothing but Freeware :)

You're right that PCs can pick up things that need to be cleaned up. However, you should only download and install trusted software on your PC otherwise you'll have even worse problems.

Note that the endorsements given on the website on the link given relate to the software being suitable to run on Microsoft Windows and doesn't mean it's recommended by Microsoft.
  • I recommend ccleaner ( used to be called c rap cleaner! lol )

I was having problems with my PC so I rang Dell who offered remote assistance and told me to install ccleaner and to run it at least once a week! :D
  • yup can only agree that ccleaner does what it says on the tin,but its been around for years now,i would suggest to the OP that the tech forum on mse is the best place for him to offer his help
just to add my two penneth, microsoft security essentials is also worth installing and is totally free

Thanks OP, think we need something like this on our machine, will look into it. I wouldn't think it would hurt to post on here once a week, I wouldn't have known about it otherwise.

Idea -As Mike suggested I think I might go with the idea of New Good Freeware on this section of MSE.

It might take time for a reputation to be built, but I can assure all that all the open sourse software mentioned will be thoroughly tested.
I have several good contacts now who have been involved in Freeware for many years and I have never been failed me yet.
But this is just me of course

Obviously you might have noticed I have a passion for this stuff!

I'll post a new one once a week and see how it goes.

    Regards
    Terry

Anybody looking for good open source alternatives to paid for software should visit http://www.osalt.com/ ot even http://sourceforge.net/

Of coures there are many sites that make great recommendations about good free soiftware

Always download from reliab;le sources such as download.com filehippo.com tucows.com - and always scan downloads before opening with them. I scan with panda cloud antivirus (You could use Avast, AVG or Avira) AND Malwarebytes Anti-malware
