Despite all their arms and all their money they still haven't defeated the problems of "relatively" backward Iraq or Afghanistan. The Chinese were dominant Thousands of years before the West.

We are in the same boat just in a different phase and size.

Without a deficit country you can't run a surplus as all the surpluses and deficits must sum to zero unless we export to Mars. If China 'bankrupts' the US, who will they sell to?

This is a bugbear of mine as well.

The Americans are mistrustful of Middle Eastern nations and yet seem to want to become more and more reliant upon them. When the US motor companies were being bailed out they could have just made it a condition that all cars produced within the next 10 years were sub 2-Litre. They could save the planet and give the Arabs the shaft at the same time.
