Until Americans figure out that you don't need to have 4+ litres to extract 200 BHP from an engine then they will keep craning heavy, wasteful oversized and underpowered lumps of iron into their cars....and wonder why noone outside their borders wants them!
This is a bugbear of mine as well.
The Americans are mistrustful of Middle Eastern nations and yet seem to want to become more and more reliant upon them. When the US motor companies were being bailed out they could have just made it a condition that all cars produced within the next 10 years were sub 2-Litre. They could save the planet and give the Arabs the shaft at the same time.0
