Tesco reference?

Hi, Can anyone who has worked for Tesco before confirm whether they give a detailed reference or simply a basic one stating which dates you worked between? Thank you.

I got this from my old staff handbook if this helps?

"To make sure references for ex-employees are fair and protected from personal bias, they are produced from the Payroll administration department at Cardiff."

Thats the address I gave my (hopefully) new employer! Should it be taking this long? Do you think I should ring and chase it up?

I just wanted to say that you shouldn't be too suprised if they don't bother completing your reference. As I have written to them on at least two occasions as I haven't received my P45. I left 5 months ago. In my letter I even requested for them to write to me and explain why if they were not in a position to send it to me.

Bit of a different situation, they have a legal obligation to provide you with a P45 (and you should be chasing it a lot harder if you need it) whereas it's entirely up to them whether they give a reference or not.

It's true what you are saying, I understand they have a legal obligation to send out a P45 that's why I said don't be too suprised if they didn't send out a reference as there is no legal requirement for them to do this. I spent 10 years working for them!

I got tired of chasing them. I need the P45 for hb/ct purposes but got fed up of wasting money by sending letters by recordered delivery to get no reply back.

Tesco references are confined to start and end date - no other information is included, and usually take a couple of requests to obtain.
