There is nothing that you can do except tell your version of events.

It is your word against your managers and the employer will have to decide who they believe in the event that they have two uncorroborated versions of events.

I'd emphasize what was different about the method they used to tell you about this shift and how it was different to the method used to tell you about every other shift and show evidence of them usually telling you against how they didn't tell you this time.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

Whenever my employer wants me to change shifts, for whatever reason (cover someone else's holidays etc), she always give me a slip of paper which i have to sign to say i agree to the change. She keeps a copy and so do i. This stops any confusion. Maybe you could ask your employer why they do not employ this practice to stop any misunderstandings like yours occurring.

Has anything else happened recently to cause them to suspend you for missing 1 shift ? Where i work, i wouldn't be suspended for this, seems a bit harsh, or is there something you're not saying ? Did you have "words" with your boss ?

I suspect that the whole point of the "long story short" was to miss out any such details! But you really are correct - there is absolutely nothing we can do to help or advise based on virtually no information. All we are doing is guessing and trying to fill in the very large gaps!
