Homebase: Watch when going for 4-for-price-of-3

Today I bought 4 items at £ 2.99 each, and 4 items at £ 6.99 each.
The offer was that you get 4 items for the price of three, and that the cheapest items were the free ones.
In doing these items in ONE transaction I was rebated a total of £ 5.98
(£ 2.99 x 2).
I challenged this and asked for the transaction to be voided so I could do it as TWO separate transactions, the items all at £ 2.99 and then all the items all at £ 6.99.
The result of splitting the purchase into TWO transactions was that I was rebated £ 6.99 plus £ 2.99, a total of
£ 9.98.
I SAVED £ 4.00.
I wouldn't ever have thought of doing calculations like this and taking such an action except that I've been following Martin since forever :A
And I got a great result in the "How tight are you?" quiz recently :T
Best regards and Happy New Year,
Alan, London :rotfl:

That's not true - Boots give you every 3rd item free, so you if you bought 3 at £20 and 3 at £10, you'd get one of each free, saving £30. They are one of the "good guys" in this - Tesco definitely is not!! (something to watch out for in their back to school 3for2 they do every year)
It's only a game
