Things to do in Leeds when you're alive?

Hi,
I would be very grateful if you could possibly help me out with regards to places to go out in Leeds? My girlfriend and I are travelling up tomorrow morning and will be staying until Sunday. We've got the accomodation sorted out (Roomzzz) and I booked a table at Cactus Lounge on the Saturday night, so just wondered what we could do during the day both tomorrow and Saturday.
No doubt if my girlfriend has anything to do with it we will be shopping at some point (although I dont mind a spot of shopping now and again - dont tell her that though! ;) ) so was just wondering what places people would recommend really? We dont have a car so would ideally like to stay in Leeds or possibly travel out not too far on public transport if somewhere is worth going to. Anywhere and anything really, oh and I guess were on a bit of a budget as well.
A few places to go for a drink in or around the Cactus Lounge area for after the meal would be good to know as well?
Dont ask for much do I :D

Any suggestions would be much appreciated, I have researched it a bit but would be good to hear from people who've actually been to places an that.

Many Thanks

WL :)

The Royal Armouries museum is not far out of the City centre, and it's free, great for folks on a budget

if your girlfriend doesn't fancy that, there's always Harvey Nichols, not great for people on a budget:rotfl:

See also, Roundhay Park http://www.forp.co.uk/ easily reached by bus from the centre
  • Thanks Fudgem for the tips, will definately check those places out!

    Thanks again! :-)

There's an Xscape at Junction 32 of the M62 and a retail outlet place called, er, "Junction 32".
  • You can get to that outlet on the train, station is Glasshoughton, on the Castleford/Pontefract line.

If you're eating at the Cactus Lounge (and it's very nice, I've eaten there - expansive drinks though...) you're at the bottom end of town. I'd suggest heading to the Corn Exchange (big dome shaped building, you can't miss it!) area where there's loads of bars and a few clubs. Fudge bar is good if you're into dance music, and it's free to get in even on Sat night!
If you just want bars then the ones that are closest together are on Boar Lane which leads away from the Corn Exchange. There's Yates's, Squares, La Cenza etc all within a few yards of each other.

Shopping wise, if you're looking for something a bit different, again the Corn Exchange is the place, or Victoria Quarter.

    Have a good time

  • In the evening if you like bars you will be spoilt for choice theres hundreds of them!

As for the day, you could easily spend most of the time wandering around the city seeing how massive it is!

Thanks very much mate, looking forward to going to the Corn Exchange now im intrugued by the shops there (Derby is currently rubbish shopping-wise!!) I think that what was meant to be a budget break may turn into an expensive one! :D

Thanks to everyone else for their comments too. Youve all been thanked!
