Surely you can' turn down an inheritance if you're on means tested benefits?

What is there not to like?

The feeling that (for example) most of the often hard-worked-for inheritance that was intended to help and could have actually benefited other members of the family has been 'wasted'.

The problem of reclaiming benefits, including losing any transitional protection due to the break in the claim.

The ongoing frustration of having large amounts of money in the bank that you can only spend as if you were on benefits.

The risk - if you are not always rational - that you may do something foolish with some of the money, and be treated when you come to reclaim as if you still had it.

People asking for gifts which you might like to give, but can't, as it would affect your future benefit.

I bet there are many people who wish they had this 'ongoing frustration!

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton
