Here we go again!

Hello there fellow DFWs!

Let me introduce myself first.

I am a young mother of a beautiful daughter who is 14 months. I'm 21. I live with my partner of 4 years. Oh and we are 11 weeks pregnant with our second baby due in July!

When I met my partner I wasn't in any debt but his bad habits seem to be contagious :rotfl: Throughout the past few years we have gone through phases of being careful with money and reducing the debt a bit and then reckless phases of increasing the debt and not paying it back

We have mainly kept our money and debts separate but have just today decided we need to put our money together and work at things together to pay everything off.

Our plan is to have everything paid this year so that I don't have to go back to work and can be a stay at home Mum. Long term goals include a holiday in 2013 (we've never been on holiday since before we met), a wedding in the next 3 years or so and we also hope to get out of the council flat we are in and into our own little place but it's not top of the priorities for now.

I am the (slightly) more sensible, restrained person with money so I am taking full responsibility and charge of the finances which is rather scary but also exciting - I can't wait for this challenge!

I work part-time for the local Council and OH is a welder.

We have a lovely dog and a crazy cat.

I love spreadsheets, diaries and planning so being the one in charge of money suits me.

I have done a rough SOA (need to phone OH's creditors and get exact figures) and I think we are almost £6000 in the red!!!

Every month we spend more than we earn, increase the debt, miss minimum payments and money is the only source of arguments in our relationships (and occasionally my laziness to do any housework ;) )

We don't have any luxuries etc. and hardly even go out anymore, we just seem to spend spend spend. Takeaways, ice cream, lunches while at work and useless bits and pieces. Now is the time to get on top of things.

SOA is coming up in the next post!!!

Hi i am not very good at this but your mobile bill is very high, and you could probably cut down on your food bill.
i take it the car insurance is due to your age but always compare prices each year.
also make sure you are check to see if you are entitled to any housing/council tax benifit and tax credits. especially after second child.
also i would recommend pet insurance too, i use to have a cat and poor thing got run over and vets bill was £280 thankfully insurance paid most, i now have a dog and its £8 a month xx

Get the overdraft(s) paid off ASAP, lower your mobile packages (can you get down to £40?), cut groceries to £200, ditch sky TV, reduce spend on presents (£50 per month is ridiculous - halve it). That will save you a massive £265+ per month! That's almost as much as you spend on rent!!
