i've seen 3rd year apprentice bricklayers come out of college and have never been taught how to mix!
you just can't teach construction trades at college in my opinion, you can only do so much and the rest of the learning (majority) needs to be done on the job.
i think we've probably seen the last of this anyway, most trade courses are being put into one package (diplomas) and only available if you work in the industry. so the days of doing level 2 and level 3 at evening classes and saying your qaulified is over0
