    You could put something like

    'career break while undertaking caring role within the family'

    which explains what you were doing without going into detail.

    Be honest, give as much information as you are comfortable with, don't waffle though cos the employer won't be interested in all the details etc, and as you say, try to make it objective, not a sob story. They just want to see a reason for the inactivity rather than anything.

    There may be organisations in your local area who can help you with your CV, maybe even those who are focussed on helping long-term sick and carers back into employment. Ask at your Job Centre, or maybe your local CAB knows of some.
