Bankruptcy and mortgages

Hi, I was after some advice please....
My husband declared himself bankrupt (before we were married) and has since been discharged. He still has to make monthly payments of £300+ for quite a few years.
We want to buy his mums house, but we can't because of his bankruptcy. BUT...I can afford the mortgage on my own, without taking my husbands wage in to account.
My friend told me a horror story about a friend of hers who was discharged from bankruptcy and a few years later her father died and they made her sell the house to repay the money back.
I was just wondering if they could make us sell the house if we did buy it to repay his bankrupty, even though the mortgage will be in my name only and not my husbands!
I hope this makes sense, if not ask any questions and I'll try and answer them!

When was the bankruptcy and the discharge.
