Folic acid 'improves memory in over-50s'

I have noticed as I have got older that my memory is not as good as it used to be and was very interested to read this article regarding taking a folic acid supplement to help prevent memory loss etc. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/health/healthmain.html?in_article_id=429833&in_page_id=1774

Most of these herbal /vitamin supplements have no scientific backing and based a lot on wishful thinking.
So on the strength of the scientific evidence I am going to give it a go and I have ordered my supply of folic acid from Zipvit £3.45 for 360 tablets containing 400mcg folic acid each. You need to take two of these to get the correct dose of 800mcg per day . http://www.zipvit.com/

Before you all rush off to buy folate have a look at the foodsources information hereRather than use supplements shouldn't you be concentrating on achieving your five a day. Spinach is so cheap, so easy to grow I don't understand why every MSEr doesn't have a row by the back door. I'm still picking spinach from last year's row, though I think the cold tonight might zap it but it won't be long before this years is on the way.
It really is important though Higher folate intake may decrease the risk of Altzheimer's
It would help if everyone ate wholegrain bread/cakes/cereal as that would assist the general Folate status, has loads of other health benefits as well not just extra folate. My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

Are Zipvit any good? I always order from Healthspan whose products seem to be well regarded within the industry. I haven't heard of Zipvit.0 -
When I was a nurse Folic Acid was given once a day in tablet form to the elderly patients to reduce confusion.0

Sorry, I forgot what it was I wanted to say.0

Doh! did you forget to take your folic acid, or have you reached the state where you don't remember eating your last meal.
I've started to forget when I've put sugar in my coffee and end up putting it in twice, then when I taste it I find out the truth.
Maybe we could all try it for a month and then start a thread to see if folic acid does help your memory. Obviously those people who stop taking the folic acid during the month will forget about the thread anyway.....0 -
Reassuring to hear I am not the only one to forget whether I have put sugar in tea. I don't take sugar, but OH does, so sometimes he gets one spoonful, other days he gets more!!
I think I will give the folic acid a try.0 -

Well that's 2 of us evergreen - whichever one of us remembersshould start a thread in around a months time entitled Folic Acid prevents memory loss - agreed?:D

I'm not a sugar person, but I can be a bit 'confused' at times, and it helps if I always do things the same way.
So if I were having to put sugar in anyone's tea, I'd probably get a routine going: once the sugar's in, I'd leave the spoon in the tea until I was ready to carry it through. Spoon in = sugar in. Spoon out = sugar NOT in. Would that help the rest of you? :rotfl:Signature removed for peace of mind0
