Courts (shop)

Hi me and the wife brought a new 2 and 3 seater sofa from courts julyish 2003 on finace over i think 36 months the first months. Payment never came out so we left till next month but still nothing so in november 2003 i rang up courts to pay the whole amount but they could not find any record of me buying a sofa from them. Nothing has ever came out of are bank as we were gonna pay by DD today i recived a letter from courts saying (the courts systems indicate that you have received certian goods from courts internet store but courts have yet to collect payment our records inicate that we do not appear to have received a response to our previous correspondence to you on this matter) 1st thing we signed a DD so surely that should of been set up by them and if we did miss a payment they would of contacted us
2nd thing we have never received any letter or phone call from them about this
courts are now in administration so do anyone know what will happen should i ask them for a copy of the contract as we cant find ares

  • Do not tell them that you do not have the paperwork.

Ask for details of this transaction from them and wait.

It is their responsibility to keep accurate paperwork and without it have no claim on you.

Maybe some irate Court's ex-employee disposed of it.

They have let down enough customers and now the boot is on the other foot !
Just for one moment, thought I'd found my way.

I agree with all of this, do not admit to anything until they supply the proof. Think of it as a kind of consilation for all of the poor folk who have paid out to Courts and recieved nothing.

I rang them to day and they said that to DD had come out of my back for the sofas. The lady said that they would setle the debt for £500 cash which we dont have so i ask her for a copy of the contract which she said had been lost buy courts or hfsc bank which is y the DD was never set up she said they would send us another contract to sign but will be with anthoer company.
  • DON'T SIGN! After all, you didn't buy a sofa from this other company, did you? Apart from your address on the records, they have no PROOF of your buying a sofa(s) from them. This is important, and won't stand up in court should it go that far. They know this, which is why they asked for a settlement. This is probably the doing of the liquidators, who are looking for the quickest way to finalise Court's debts/finances. If you show them you are going to want the paperwork, this will cost them time they haven't got.
