Plug plants are now in Wilkinsons 2 for £5, Packs of 4 hanging basket plants which normally cost about £1.60 each when in the garden centre. Pot them up and they'll soon be big enough for baskets.

They also had fuchsias in larger packs.

You'd still be getting at least 8 plants for £5 whereas they're about £1.60 each in a garden centre. They had a good mixture of hanging basket plants - not just the usual fuchsias, geranium and pansies.

Speaking of Wilkinsons. In those I use, they normally have quite an extensive range of both house and garden plants and when they are first put out on display, are well worthwhile buying. BUT, you go back afew days later and without exception they look very neglected, even though they;re not. It's either the heat/draft/over/under watering/lights etc, but they look very sad. It is only when the plants are leafless, do they offer them at a reduced price. In particular I noted some worthwhile camelia's last week. Now they are but stalks with half dead flowers and void of leaves, but they are £4.99. I once queried this with a supervisor and she said "wilkinsons make so much on those they do sell, that they're not too bothered". Whether that's right or wrong, it seems a damn shame.

I think 8 plants for £5 sounds expensive - I buy from the big mail order sellers like Thompson & Morgan and Gardening Direct, where you can get 50+ plants for £8 !

The downside is that you really need some space like warm windowsills or a greenhouse to grow them on if they are tender plants, but you would have to do that anyway. I have had some great results from these.
