Can you be forced to use annual leave for things like dental & doctors appointments?

Hi all,
Just after a bit of quick advice really if anyone can help....
My workplace has a decent amount of annual leave (30 days plus bank holidays, etc). A new "rule" is coming into play whereby we are expected to use annual leave for routine doctor and dental appointments because the annual leave allowance is so generous.
Can they do this? Not moaning or groaning as such, just want to know if this is usual practice?
Thanks in advance

No you can take leave without pay instead. Emergencies are covered by sick leave but routine appointments you need to make in your own time.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

There is no requirement for them to allow you to have time off for appointments etc for yourself. It is therefore up to you to book appointments in your own time if your employer doesnt give you appointments "for free" then its up to you to decide if you get out of hours or evening appointments or book a half day holiday for it.0

yes, this is fine,. and why I made sure my doctor and dentist did evening appointments when registering.Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0 -
You should arrange routine appointments to fit with your time off.
They are not obliged to give you time off with pay for such visits.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -

Only with the agreement of the employer which seems to have been taken away. Now it is take it in your own time or take it with holiday.
The employer obviously feels that their generosity is being abused!
Perfectly fine what they are asking. The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
If I give you advice it is only a view and always always take professional advice before acting!!!

As most other posters have correctly said, the answer is yes, they can do this, but I'd agree that it's a nuisance to have to use a half or whole day of your holiday for a 15 minute check up at the dentist if you can't get an appointment outside work hours.0
