Cleaning around a hob

The adhesive around the hob sealing it to the worktop is disgusting:eek:. What can I use to clean it, or even better, can I attack it with a stanley knife and get rid of it entirely? It is only the bit between the edge of the hob and the worktop, but as I rent, I don't want to risk anything which could cause issues?
The problem is that if I try to scrub it, it will come away anyway.

I'd be tempted to get in there with a toothbrush & bit of cif or bleach to see if that helps. If that doesn't work, then a new bit of sealant shouldnt cost too much (although don't know if there is a specific type you should use, sorry)"Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it" Einstein 19510

I would use a toothpick to get grime out, it would have less impact than a stanley knife! Then I would do the same as above and get in there with a toothbrushCredit Card: £796 Left/£900 October 2011 :eek:Store Card: £100 October 2011

Our hob didn't even have a seal round it and there's all sorts under there
I've scrubbed it as best I can, and got DH to silicone round the edge which stops any other gunk getting in.0
