I know you said no beans - but needs must ya know and it could be kinda like that mel brookes film where they are all sitting round the campfire
we've always done things like pasta and sauce (most of them can be made up wiht just water not the milk and butter as suggested) or pasta and toms and salami when camping. salami is quite nutritious and lasts ok out of the fridge.
I don't like cous cous or pulses.......or beans
I thought about the pasta and sauce...it's definately on the list as we'll probably need more than one meal.
It's a right pain  The food has to be plentiful and tasty but extremley light as we'll be carrying it 20 kms. We're carrying enough gas to heat food and water but are limited to the amount of cooking time we have as the extra gas is heavy too.Just run, run and keep on running!0 -
ravioli? tortellini? gnocchi?
actually gnocchi is brill for something like camping as it only take a couple of mins to heat thru in boiling water (water can then be used for something else if you want) and its good with cheesey stuff or tomatoey stuff
its relatively light to carry and is ambient so doesnt need to be chilled or prepared.
some of the flavoured smash is nice(ish) - i used to have the oniony one when I travelled a lot with work and wanted to just hide in my hotel room and watch tv.Blah0 -
Oaty bars -
3 ounces s/r flour (could you some wholemeal)
3 ounces oats
2 ounces brown sugar (any)
4 oz butter
4 oz fruit/choc/apples/raisins etc etc
mix flour, oats, sugar. Add butter and mix well (may need to use hands) add fruit. Put in swiss roll type tin and flatten down. bake 180 for 25mins (I think this is gas 5 but not sure)Mink0 -
Thanks Mink, I'll have to get me pinny on
It must be better for you than a Mars bar eh?
The fresh pasta is a good idea too, we're off camping tomorrow so I may take some for our lunch and see what it's like in situ. The only possible drawback is that our pan is really small but I could cook it in two lots couldn't I and add some kind of concentrated tommy sauce? hmmmmmm...... YUM!Just run, run and keep on running!0 -
