That doesn't apply for contribution based JSA. However, if you have significant savings then you needn't worry too much - you'll not starve

The main reason for stopping contribution-based JSA before 6 months are up is if you don't have a full record of NI contributions for the last 2 years. Is that the case for you? If not then you need to get back on to the benefits help line to find out what the reason for it being stopped is.0

It's the other way around. CB JSA counts as income for tax credit but IB JSA does not. Tax credits do not count as income for JSA of any type. I want the government to give me exactly £500 per week. What sort of question is that?Does IB JSA not take into account Tax Credits when working out the amount someone is eligable to? As the OP is recieving CTC, and IB JSA award may be subject to this??
Regardless, inclusive of the £488 your wife earns, the total income comes to £985 per month, plus your CTB. On top of this, you will recieve free dental care, and prescriptions (and I think your wife will too for maybe 2 years after the babies birth - not sure though correcvt me if I'm wrong).
It's not by any means, a massive amount, but how much exactly do you want the government to hand you - they are effectively more than doubling your household income at present. Is your wife working more than 16 hours per week? I assume she has checked whether or not she is eligable to WTC? Do you have a mortgage or do you rent? If the latter, have you checked if your eligable, or are you waiting on a HB decision?
:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

This doesn't make sense, you either get 6 months contributions based JSA or none at all. If the OP hasn't paid enough NI class one contributions in the 2 previous tax years they would have to apply for incomes based JSA which is of course means tested.0 -
Thanks for clearing that up; btw, it was a rhetorical questionIt's the other way around. CB JSA counts as income for tax credit but IB JSA does not. Tax credits do not count as income for JSA of any type. I want the government to give me exactly £500 per week. What sort of question is that?

I don't agree, I received CB JSA for several months in 2010 despite having only worked and paid NI for 8 months in the preceding 2 years.0 -
I don't think he is saying you necessarily have to work for the full 2 years, you just have to have contributed "enough" via NI to become eligible for CB JSA within the past 2 years.I don't agree, I received CB JSA for several months in 2010 despite having only worked and paid NI for 8 months in the preceding 2 years.0 -

That is only for income based, not for contribution based. You need to contact them and find out why you were taken off contribution based.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

simple calculations of total income per month (or 4-weekly)
wife work £488
JSA £270
CHB £80
CTC £33
TOTAL £871 Thats what i want to get currently. The government has not doubled my income.. Its not a massive amount but I've been contributing for 3 years (started October 2008 - redundant November 2011). The wife worked 70 hrs that month. More than 16hrs per week.
I do have a mortgage so I have to pay that. Not eligible for Housing Benefit.
Last resort will be to negotiate with bank lower payment...0 -
Thank you everyone
Will contact them and ask these questions
Never received JSA before so dont know how it works..
Also why dont they work out everything monthly?? Hardly anyone is getting paid weekly anymore. Tax credits, Child Benefit, Job seekers. Even mortgage is paid monthly...0
