Very Special Birthday for Mum - Ideas Please!

It's my mum's 70th soon and I'd like to make it a special birthday to remember. So far I have planned to throw a surprise party and I have invited all of her siblings (she has many) from over the UK. The plan is to tell her me, my father, and two local relatives are taking her for dinner, and when we arrive everyone else will be there. We will make sure the place is nicely decorated (we have a private dining room booked), and she will have her favourite flowers and a cake. My two brothers and myself are giving her a holiday for her and our dad as our gift to her, and I am also having a photo book made that includes loads of photos of herself, friends, and family (all unseen pics) that I have had her siblings send to me on the sly, along with some words about her.

To keep her out of the way until the evening I am also taking her to a spa for the day for some pampering.

Can anyone think of anything else I can add to either the surprise party, or as a gift, to make it even more special?

Thanks in advance!

sounds like a wonderful day for your mum, maybe take her shopping for a new outfit so she has something really special to wear for her birthday

cant think of anything else though as it all sounds lovely

  • Everything sounds lovely!

i can't think of anything that would make it any more special, could you videotape the event or have people all take photo's using disposable camera's so she can remember every moment.

Lovely thing to do, I hope you all have a lovely time :)

Love this idea, you wouldn't necessarily have to do 70 memories but just a few special people writing would be something she could treasure especially if you can find some lovely envelopes.

It's my Dad's 80th in April, and my brothers and myself are surprising him with 2 days in Paris, with all his Grandkids ( down side is that I've just discovered that his passport expired this month, so he'll need to get advance warning to renew it!)
So that he has something as a physical reminder of the day too though, I printed off the letters of "Happy 80th" on different sheets of paper, gave one to each of his 3 kids and 6 grandkids, and took 9 different photos of them holding them up. I am amalgamating these on a collage, and will get it framed
  • How about putting together a photo album for your mum? :)

If you have the time, google 1942 birthdays and films or people who share her birthday.

    HTH FiFi :)

have a guest book and give everyone a space to write a little piece about why they love her, or amusing memories of time spent with her and if you have very young children, they might just like to draw something in a box. Perhaps you could include the menu too and a photograph of the outside of the hotel/restaurant.
Hope she has a lovely time.
