Party bag ideas?

  • When I made a princess castle cake 2 years ago, I used bought cakes, they last longer, so you can make it in advance and are of a more uniform shape so you know what you're going to get. For a tower I'd say use a few 'basics' round sponge cake layered on top of eak other, carve into a nice round shape, or use a realy big biscuit cutter, cover with butter cream and then top with a sheet of ready to roll icing. For the tower roof just use paper, or maybe thin cardboard rolled into a cone and cover in icing. Its amazing how good cakes can look with not a lot of effort, not taking away anyones credit for fantastic cakes they've made, it just surprises me how many people go for supermarket ones when they can be so easy. If you want a realy easy cake though, on ebay you can get an icing sheet thats printed with a picture of rapunzel in tangled, your daughters photo and a message from you, just stick itonto a round or square cake with butter cream.
I'm with Ceff66 on the recycling present idea and we've actualy been given a present with a christmas card to that persons daughter still inside it, so plenty of other mums do it too. Just make sure you remember who gave what so you dont give it back to them!
  • Tired mom, that looks great, I love the idea of a cracker in there.

    Hi

In answer to your question about the presents, My dd was invited to a party before and on the invite was a note to say that the girl was saving to buy furniture for her dolls house and rather than buying a present she would love it if her friends would give her one golden coin, (forgot to say it was a princess and pirates theme)
I don't normally like being asked for money (for birthdays christenings engagments or weddings) as it makes me feel awkward about how much to give. But the fact that she asked for ONE golden coin made it different (to me anyway) and we gave her 5 pound coins in an oxo cube box decorated by my dd.

Also I agree with whoever said earlier about the party bags, my kids both love tat party bags, its great to get in the car and see what you've got! :D If they were just to get a pot with a seed in it I imagine they (might) be a little disapointed really. the bag doesn't have to be filled or anything, but a balloon, tub of bubbles and a yoyo or noisy rattle etc and a slab of cake is sooo exciting to them.
