mis-sold PPI?

We had PPI on our mortgage payments up until 1996 when my husband became unemployed - when we approached our mortgage provider they at that time said he had to be unemployed 3 months before they would act on cover of mortgage.

Can we still claim for mis-selling of that PPI and is there a template letter that would enable us to do this? Do not want to involve one of those firms that claim on your behalf as the amount they take from the claim is I believe extortionate!

Answers please xx

You're probably time barred and if it's 1988 there's a reasonable chance that it predates the Financial Services Act anyway.

Your complaint is against whoever sold you the endowment. So who was it?

And why do you think it was mis-sold?

And why has it taken so long to ask the question?

(EDIT: The original question has completely changed since I gave my answer!)

Nothing you've said suggests a 'mis sale'

The fact you had to wait 3 months before claiming is not grounds for mis-sale. It has nothing to do with how the policy was sold.

If you used a mortgage adviser/broker or an IFA then this would be timebarred as it is pre-regulation. You could also be timebarred under the 3 year/6 year rule as well.

Plans in 1996 did generally have a longer out-of-work period than modern plans. That was quite normal in the same ways that someone cant complain that they were not sold a widescreen plasma tv in 1965.
