Tax return unsure...

I have to file my tax return for 2010-2011.
However, a company I worked for as an agency worker has sent me a p45 saying I left them on the 6th of April 2011 when I didn't even know the company existed let alone start working for them in late August 2011.
Does the date on the p45 mean I have to include my earnings with them for the 2010-11 tax year even though that is false?
I tried to contact HMRC but was on hold for so long my phone ran out of charge.
Regards,
Tim

So did you actually work for the company that sent you the p45? If so is the p45 definately addressed to you, quotes your NI number, payroll number etc on it? (not that you've received someone else's in the post, perhaps with a similar name in error)
If the P45 is addressed to you, and you did work for them, when exactly did you work for the company? does the P45 amounts match to what you did earn, but with incorrect dates?
I would query it with the company who sent you the p45. If they've got their records mixed up, then you need to get it sorted with them.
And no, I would NEVER include earnings in the wrong tax year. NEVER EVER.
If they're not your earnings, then the company needs to get its records fixed. If they are your earnings but they've got the wrong dates, again they need to sort this out.Indecision is the key to flexibility
