Clearing £10k off the credit cards in 2012

A slightly belated end of March update:

Total CC debt now stands at £11,756.23, which I'm really pleased with! Only another £6,223.20 to clear by the end of this year and I'll have reached my target!

I find it amazing that once you really decide to get rid of debt it's not as difficult as you imagine. As your focus changes, it becomes easier to find things you no longer want to spend your money on so you can use that money to reduce the debt instead.

I have a spreadsheet which I use every month which looks at my current debt levels and planned payments and works out when I'll be debt free. At the moment it's predicting that I'll have paid off just over £10k by the end of the year so I', starting to wonder whether I should be making this challenge a bit harder for me. Food for thought.........

I think the most useful thing I have done in my quest to get rid of this debt is to start a piggybank. I have a savings account attached to my current account in which I put aside money for things I don't pay every month but need to pay sometime over the year. I know that if I need money for any of those things that it's there and I won't have to use my CCs.

    Next steps:
    - work on getting my food bill down - still spending too much here
    - decide what a revised target should be - could I clear £12k or is that too ambitious?
