Tax Abroad

My son returned from New Zealand in Dec 06 whilst in NZ he worked for about four months, was only out of the UK for 5 months.
He informed the tax office that he was back in the UK and they said that he would need to declare any work in NZ in his 2006 to 2007 tax year form although a tax credit will be given for any tax paid overseas, he has not been out of the country for a full tax year
When he was away his bag got lost so any wage slips or proof of work went missing, does he need these wage slips? The work in NZ is the only work that he has done during his 2006-2007 tax year as he was laid off work in March 2006
Any advice would be welcome, what happens with a tax credit?

No he does not need payslips, just to put the income on an employment page and claim the credit on a foreign page. A local HMRC enquiry office could help me if he is not sure how to complete these.
