Concern over my P45

Hello you lovely clever people.

I was "Let Go" by my company whilst still in my probation period on the 3rd December.

I subsequently signed on, 4th December. I started with my new employer on the 19th December.

Last Saturday I recieved my P45 from the Company I was let go from. It is stating that my leaving date is the 22nd December, not the 3rd Dec. I have emailed the Company pointing out their mistake.

Can anyone tell me if this is going to cause me any problems?

Does the Company issue me a new P45? Or does the one already sent stand, and the Company contacts HMRC directly to rectify their mistake?

Thank you.

The P45 can stand. When did they make up your last pay? That is, when was your last pay day with them?

Presumably you have been paid by your new employer and you completed a P46. When they have the P45 they can sort out the correct tax situation with HMRC.

The only problem you could experience is that you will have received your personal tax allowance for December in both your employments if you are paid monthly. If you are paid weekly the amount would be very little.

Any way the main thing is that it can be sorted out by your new employer and doesn't require separate notification to HMRC.

They aren't allowed to issue another P45 but they should send a letter explaining the error to HMRC with a copy sent to you.

You need to sort it officially because of the signing on issue. If they think you were still in employment when you signed on you will be in trouble.
