Weight loss/Diet on a budget £15-£20 Per week.

hey all, i'm a student at the moment and could probs spend around £15-20 a week, i'm looking to lose weight, i'm a gym go'er usually 500cals min cardio for 4 days at least, with my lifestyle of uni and work the whole eat little but often doesn't work >:( im finding myself eating "healthy" as in Pastas most days, some meat then again the meat will be made in curry, the portions are HUGE however its the ONLY meal of the day, so im not eating until im home, then i make up for it with not "Bad for me" foods, just they're big portions, i'm cutting alcohol out (hard being a student ^_^ )

I've decided to try and eat healthier i need to find some kind of diets and be more strict i like the sound of the "Paleo" diet or Caveman diet. However reading salmon and Turkey are big things to eat, i doubt i could afford that, either way Paleo preferred, i'm looking for some kind of

Diet Plan weekly if possible, one that would be less than £20 a week, i take it tin's tuna and vege would be cheapest but then again daily that would become very old very fast lol.

Any help will be appreciated, or points in the right direction/links to other posts, ive looked through some and the links have expired.

MUCHO thanks in advance.

PS £20 only on myself, i live alone, if that helps.

Turkey is quite cheap sometimes, or chicken, and healthy too. If Salmon's too expensive try trout, it tastes practically the same, or just white fish in the frozen section of a supermarket.

I would make sure you eat a varied diet, buy in veg cheap, check reduced sections of supermarkets to keep costs down. If you like pasta, make your own tomato sauces using chopped tomatoes, herbs, garlic powder, onion powder, half a tea spoon of sugar and put lean meat or veg into it. Buying in the herbs will be your biggest expense, but not by much, but they last for ages. I learnt how to make pasta sauce when I was at uni. I would suggest using wholewheat pasta too and weigh it out if you can so you dont eat too much, that's my problem.

I don't know any plans as such, just some cheap and healthy meals:
pasta that I've explained the recipe for
salad with tinned tuna or chicken for lunch (maybe a bit of extra light mayo, but not much!)
soup with wholewheat bread - check calories though, or make home made soup from left over chicken carcasses
medium jacket potato with trout and salad or veg for a dinner (tiny bit of butter/marg if you really want it)

There's loads more I just can't think of them all right now!

its very much a misconception that you need to spend money to "be on a diet"

You have already said yourself that portion control is your problem. Control your portions, and combined with the exercise, you will lose weight

    It really is that simple.

A bit drastic, but if you spend nothing on nothing and eat nothing you will lose weight!

    Hi

I have now lost over 4 stone since June on a low carb diet, using cheap veg from Lidl or Aldi to make curries and lentils to bulk out mince etc. The lentils have to be counted as carbs though.

Eggs are cheap, cheese goes a long way, especially extra mature cheddar, and can often be picked up half price.

Fish and meat are more expensive but usually cheaper when bought frozen and often they have deals on chicken, pork, bacon etc in Lidl or Aldi.

    Good Luck
  • I'd say that making big portions of healthy, inexpensive meals that you can freeze and defrost is the way to go. Make your own tomato and red pepper soup, veggie chilli with Quorn and red kidney beans, or healthy brown rice dishes cooked with veg stock and whatever veggies you can find ( a bit of chicken or ham chucked in won't hurt either). You do need to get into the habit of cooking regualrly and tupperwaring it in the freezer but having a healthy meal just a defrost away can help stop you reaching for unhealthy stuff.

As for cheese, i think buying a small portion of really mature, flavourful cheese is right, you'll use less and it will last longer!
