pens/pencils for dyspraxia

my son has dyspraxia and is also double jointed in most of his joints....and i am also a TA so i'm speaking from a parents point of view and school
we bought him a yoropen to begin with. he loved it. liked the grip. however his handwriting didn't improve.
he was then put on the write from the start scheme at school which i think is brill! he also stopped using the yoropen and started to use the school handwriting pens. these are manuscript handwriting pens and are very free flowing. much better than biro. it was school policy to use pencils for children until their handwriting was good enough for pen. this is obviously not going to happen in a child with dyspraxia. i firmly believe these pens are much better than pencils.
then after years of complaining, stamping my foot and generally whinging he was finally assessed for IT and now has an alphasmart for school use. this will be reviewed when he goes to secondary to see if he needs a lap top.
this has been invaluable.
these things are out there but in my experience she who shouts loudest gets! (no wonder my throat is always sore!!!)
good luck in getting some help for you son0 -

One more thing I've thought of. Sometimes local children's hospital run summer groups once a week for children with Dyspraxia and similar complaints. Might be worth contacting them or your GP about it. It's run by the OT's and Physios, so really good if you get your son on one of these.
Forgot to say about my son too, his fine motor skills are so poor, he can hardly write his own name. So if you can get a laptop, you could find it invaluable.
ooh thanks,he is seeing the OT again in half term so will ask her
we have a laptop in the house and my son is a whizz on it ! better than me lol
:rotfl:
His junior school are really supportive / understanding ,I just hope the secondary school will be too
