My monthly shopping costs are around £300-£325 also, but this does include alcohol, nappies, cat food, etc.

We cook from scratch and I know that the figure we spend could be reduced but I don't reckon by too much, to be honest.

I shop at Tesco which is pretty well priced for most of its goods, but I still find that some of their fruit and veg very expensive - for example, my daughthers love mangoes but you can't always get them on offer and they are £1.49 each. Even something basic like cauliflower - £0.89 each. If you eat your '5 a day' you will soon see your grocery bill rising. I have tried 3 local greengrocers and frankly am frequently appalled by the quality of the goods they sell, very, very near their best and overpriced so you end up going to the supermarket anyway.

Where do you go shopping Jackie_W?

Use all the resources you can, if you have a decent local butcher, or a nice greengrocers than these are usually better than the supermarket. Do you use own brands?

I used to always buy too much so things would go out of date or mouldy before I had a chance to use it.

Make lists of things you need and check online to see if they are on offer somewhere before going shopping.

Take it a bit at a time and you will get there.:)

I always buy my butcher meat from butchers, and fruit & veg from greengrocers. other than that I shop between Asda, Lidl & some frozen stuff from Farmfoods.

    Hi everyone,

I was going to reply individually, but, there are so many replies (didnt think I would get this responce), that I will just give the one reply (hope no one minds).

The children are aged 9 & 22 months, I always make sure I give them their fruit & veg, actually thinking about it, I usually buy frozen veg. I make all my own pasta sauces (buy the cheapest tins of tomatoes), make my own soups, and white sauces for lasange etc.

I do have to buy nappies, but, I buy the great big box from Asda (I do subscribe to Pampers, but ive never had any vouchers from them!).

When I buy a fresh chicken, I always buy a large one, so it usually lasts about 3 days ie, roast chicken for the first night, chicken curry the following night, then I usually make pasta with chicken mixed through it for the rest.

I always make a list before I go shopping, and very rarely do I buy anything thats not on the list.

Hubbie is a very big eater (and it doesnt show on him:mad: blimin unfair if you ask me), and as I said, if there are any leftovers in the fridge that I want to keep for the following night, he always eats it, cos he always seems to be hungry!!

I will have to look into this further, and see if I can come up with a solution.
