employer changed pay day!!!!

My son in law has worked for a company for 4 years, his salary pay date has always been the 5th of the month, his last pay date was 5th December, he was informed the day they broke up for hoilday ( 24th Dec) that the next company pay day would be 19th January and the 19th of the month thereafter for everyone!!!!
Does this mean that his salary on the 19th Jan should be 6th Dec -18th Jan,this is what I think?
When he questioned this he was told no the date doesent matter he will only be paid 1 months salary!!!
Bottom line ...they are keeping 2 weeks pay from everyone in the company???
Can anyone advise please?
Thank you

Did he get anything in writing? You need to check the employment contract to see if the company can do this.0

Being paid 2 weeks in arrears is not unusual. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
-
Do you mean that they will owe him 2 weeks money which he can only get back if he leaves?
This company have had financial difficulty in the past, our worry is if they go pop he wont be paid up to date?0 -
My company pays the staff on the 28th of each month, even though we pay on this date the amount we pay the team is from the 1st until the end of each month.
I suspect this will be the same for your son in laws company meaning that regardless of the date the staff are actually being paid the period they are being paid for remains the same. No one will be loosing out on any money just experiencing the inconvenience of having their payday moved.
We then pay overtime a month in arrears.
Hope this helps!0 -

Yes, they will owe him money.

I can understand your concern but this could happen regardless of the pay date, (though should it happen, it would mean that he was owed the extra 2 weeks money).
I'm fairly sure that pay dates can be changed but I employers are obliged to give sufficient notice, in writing.
I would check out his contract.I myself am made entirely of flaws, stitched together with good intentions...0 -

Thank you..I do understand what you are saying but this company have moved the pay date back by 2 weeks the last payday was the 5th Dec the next one is the 19th Jan then the 19th thereafter...they are only paying a months salary on the 19th even although it is 6 weeks in total worked from the last pay day0 -
I am pretty sure you have the wrong end of the stick there, as has been mentioned above.
However without the written change to the contract being to hand you canot answer any of the questions being put to you with the facts.
You need this.
FWIW I am paid two weeks advance, two weeks arrears, payday cut off is 15th of the month and the pay date is the 24th to allow expenses to go through.
From the outside it is impossible to do anything other than speculate, sorrySealed pot challange no: 3390 -

I understand what you are saying but what the OP is trying to say, I think, is that where he got paid on the 5th dec he expected to get paid a month later on the 5th jan..... now that the paydate has changed to the 19th that is an extra 2 weeks to find money for travel, food, expenses etc. so surely he should get those two weeks paid in the Jan salary and then go back to his usual salary amount from 19th Feb. Or alternitvely, when he leave he should have the 2 weeks added onto the end.
I would be very upset if this happened to me with no warning and I would look into whether this is legal as I owuld have thought they would need to give at least a months notice before change ie. 5th Nov.0 -
unless they were previously paid in advance

Who honestly knows without more facts?Sealed pot challange no: 3390
