Aldi have a Singer sewing machine for £89.99. I have never bought a sewing machine before and do not know if this is a bargain or not. Here is the website link.

Would anyone like to comment on this one please. I have my Mam's sewing machine which was made in the 1960's and is a Singer had it to be mended but shouldn't have bothered. I am a novice.

John Lewis also have one for £89 just now that I've been eyeing up. Can't comment on quality of either though I'm afraid.

They both appear to be good value, but on the JLewis site they have a Singer that looks almost exactly the same as the Aldi one at £129. Myself I'd be tempted to go for the Singer at Aldi, I'm a bit biased as I've had a lightweight basic Singer for a good 13 years now & never had a problem with it. With the Aldi one you are getting a 3yr guarantee, so an improvement on JL's normally excellent guarantee period, which can often be the deciding factor.
If you have a branch of JL near you, you could go in & try to compare the Janome & the similar looking Singer to get a better idea of what attracts you the most. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
i looked at the aldi one for my daughter for her uni fashion course. but went with the j lewis jl110 as her friend has it at uni and has been very good and comes with 2 yr gaurantee and good service from j lewis. id go jl all day.:dance::dance::dance::dance::dance::dance:0

Be careful of buying unbranded sewing machines.... had to get replacement parts for mine and had a right job finding the parts.
Mine is a Toyota...wouldnt give it 10/10!
Dunelms are doing one for £75.
My mate has one and she swears by it.
It even does embroidery.
Janome and Singer are the best though, in my opinion.
Hope this helps!“Nobody can go back and start a new beginning,
