Ooh that sounds like food for thought! A tax junior ... I have no idea how I would start to look for one of those roles either but I am determined and I have spent sooo many hours on this internet in the last fews weeks I must find something somewhere! Sound slike a tax specialist firm may be a good starting point.
You don't need ATT or CTA to work in tax. They are both useful qualifications and good to have, but given that you already have AAT, which is of a comparable level to ATT and you don't have enough experience to take on CTA, I wouldn't recommend either to you at this point in time.
Do not limit your search to tax boutiques - many accountancy firms, including the really small firms, offer book-keeping and/or audit services together with tax. If you just look for boutiques (particularly if you live in a smaller city etc), you will be severely restricting your job search!
To clarify, yes, I would recommend taking the ACA/CA/ACCA route for someone in your position.0 -
