holiday entitlement

Hi i used to work 4 days a week 25 hrs and was entitled to 24 days holiday a year i have been with the company over 15 years. I recently changed department and started working 5 days a week 36.5 hrs which entitled me to 8 bank holidays and 30 days a year as i gained an extra 2 days holiday as i have been with the company over 15 years however im only recieving 7 bank holidays and 28 holidays. When i questioned my wages dept they told me i had to earn the holidays as i started my new role half way through the year. Can they do this ?

You only accrue holiday for time worked so as long as their calculations are correct what they are doing is the norm. Because you have not worked a full holiday year why should you get a whole holiday years holiday for a part years work?
