Definitely. If i ever have kids it'd be a major concern - especially if i have a son/sons as stereotype would say they're more troublesome. That doesn't make me want one any less though lol.
I stayed on for 6th form myself, but never had an 'urge' to go to college/uni, although i could've. Instead i stayed in my routine, non-testing boring job. It's not a good thing to like routine & not change. I'd love to move on, but i can't bring myself to. I know i could've been/could be so much better & instead of 18kper year for 50-60hr weeks, i could be on more for much less, but i've totally lost any drive. I was constantly being told i could really make something of myself, but it's no good if you have no drive. It's getting the wrong time of life now too - i'm 10 years too old, despite people saying it's never too late. I'm looking to buy a house in 2013 - i can't just quit my job, retrain for a few years (no/little income) & then HOPE to get a job at the end of it.
My sister is a tryer. She tries hard, but she knows she's not that clever. She was a bad quitter, but she seems to have pulled her finger out of late & is in her final year of a college course & is doing well after putting in plenty of effort. She also stayed on for 6th form ... but quit after about 1year.
Then my brother - no interest in school, nevermind 6th form. Wanted to become a mechanic, but wouldn't put in the work to go finding a placement until the final week after leaving year 11. I used a contact to get him a position which lead to a permanent position & apprenticeship.
Unfortunately, he will not separate from the 'wrong crowd' & because of this, he doesn't put in the work outside of hours (he always fails exams first time round due to not putting the effort in - too busy getting out at night dossing about with his cornershop bin hugging friends). His boss is now looking to move him on as a driver instead, so he will end up not being a qualified mechanic, which is a shame.
But you can't baby & bail them out forever. They need to make their own way & learn. As the 'elder brother' i feel it sort of my role to advise & protect, but if they don't want it then you can't make them.
So 3 apples from the same tree, yet all totally different. While i can't motivate myself to sort my job situation out, i'm glad i'm not like my brother LoL.
A bit of a ramble with nothing to do with pensions, but hey ho. If i bored you my apologies. If you read through all that, well, my apologies again lol.0
