Well, I had one client who had a 2,000+ underpayment due to HMRC generously doubling his income - i.e. counting the same income twice - so I rule nothing daft out on the part of HMRC.

One of these days you'll manage a post that doesn't include "one of my clients blah de blah"......go on make a late New Year's resolution.

Seriously, your little tales are of no use to any of the posters.

just thought i would add some more info about the p800 it seems that hmrc have counted the pay from the company i was working for and made redundant from twice the p800 shows paye income as £7447 this is £6954.21 from the company made redundant from and £493.73 from a new job i started 2 weeks before the end of the tax year jsa as £7740 however jsa should show as £786.51 the p45 from the dwp shows total pay including taxable benefit as £7740.72 this is the £6954.21 and the jsa of £786.51 i shall phone them tomorrow and try to explain it or failing that ask for an iterview at one of their offices.

on a side note suso you are wrong about me being a troll i just came here for some advice i am willing to admit you were right about there being more to this than meets the eye that comment made me look again at the paperwork and find their mistake so thanks for that but you are also wrong about when i was notified about this and about when the letter was sent out to me i do not have a scanner but if you really think i am lying i can go to a friends house and email you a copy of the letter dated the 16th it was the 16th and not the 17th i phoned them my mistake but the letter is dated the 16th.

Right, we now know with reasonable confidence that it's one of the HMRC items which you see described at the footnote of every post I make on here. Be firm and tenacious and don't let this one go until HMRC have chucked that assessment into the bin! And well done for coming on here, I've had a few folk come along after having paid up on one of these errors and it's harder to get the money back once it's been handed over.

It's still not too clear on dates even though it looks like there may be a mistake with the P800.

When did you receive the P800 notice?

When did you receive the letter from HMRC saying that ESCA19 did not apply?

Was it two separate letters you received?

You photocopy it for your own records. Then you send the original. That way you still have proof.
