SDXC cards

We just bought a camcorder. Looking for memory card deals...SDHC cards are at around £30 for 32gb ones...but cam says SDXC....these are very expensive... £70 +

Would sdhc work in SDXC cams?

Can't answer your question sorry, but these look a fair bit cheaper than the price you've mentioned:

Alternatively, you can get card converters so I wonder if you can get a converter to SDXC from other card types?

SDXC cards START at 64Gb and go up to 2Tb

QUALITY 64Gb are available for around £65 .... which equates well to your 32gb SDHC for £30 (although I'd pay nearer £20 for these myself)

    £64.99 - FREE DELIVERY >>> http://www.picstop.co.uk/transcend-sdxc-memory-card-64gb

I thought the X was simply for extended (capacity), useful for HD video recording.

Host devices that comply with newer versions of the specification provide backward compatibility and accept older SD cards, but older host devices do not recognize newer cards.

Most shops have demo cards so possibly worth taking the camera to one to see how an SDHC Card gets on. If empty, it should show on the camera how long it will record for, if an SDHC Card will cover the likely time use and that falls within the capability of the battery, you may as well stick with an SDHC, though a higher class card is probably worth having.

The camera may have settings for different quality output. my Sony HDR TGE3 produces better output on its medium setting.

YES but it is for a recognised quality branded TRANSCEND card (rather than a "budget" version) with a lifetime guarantee more likely to be honoured by the manufacturer,(there doesn't appear to a rather limited qualifier of what "LIFETIME" means that applies to yours :) ) from a British dealer, that trades directly as opposed to an American supplier through Amazon ...

.. and these probably quite exceed the performance specifications as opposed to just meeting them

I agree - I only purchase well-known branded cards for the same reason. But the OP was saying they are too expensive for him/her so the requirements were different - lower cost rather than higher quality.
  • look out for 'gadgetmaster' on amazon- I got a cheap wireless adaptor there, may have other bots n pieces too..
