By not using Payday lenders at all. (and mainstream loans/cards really)
By not borrowing for luxuries at all.
By living well within your means.
And by saving at least 10% of your income each money into an emergency savings account to only be used for genuine unexpected expenses.

Agreed.
Even if doing the first 3 means you can't do the saving bit, it's still the sensible thing to do.0 -
hi:rotfl: all point 1 , i will not be useing payday loans and never have. 2 no luxury this year for me only buy what i need. 3 yep i intend to live within my means , 4, again yes as i have started a savings habit not sure what percent but am saving. let me also add i am free of credit card debit , so 2012 is looking good for me and my family,. I do not intend taking out a loan of any sort in 2012 and beyond , and will not ever build up credit card debit again , will only use cc for large items re protection and points as long as i have money set aside to pay off . i had 10 credit cards now only 3 all good for points . have set a tight budget , other cards payed off shut down no outstanding balances on the remaining 3 cards . i feel good just putting this in writing. HAPPY 2012 to you al,l good luck in the battle against debit . 1 thing i have noticed is you sleep better when debt free .0

No 3 is going to be my Mantra this year, and I am going to try hard at number 4.
First two dont apply to me but I definitely agree with them.Pay off all my debts before Christmas 2015 #165.0 -
Just a pound a week is enough for a emergency fund. do it as it makes so much sense. It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
Making a budget is essential because it is a way of being intentional about the way you spend and save your money. Budgeting teaches family members spending responsibility, accountability and live within our means.0
