Probably the biggest is that oral surgeons know much about general dentistry!
To get to be an oral surgeon, there is such a lot of additional training, including qualifying as a Dr and then doing all the surgical diplomas for both Dr and dental surgery - that by the time you get there, the actual nuts and bolts of general day-to-day wet fingered dentistry are long forgotten!
If I needed a filling, I'd probably pick a recently graduated dentist over an oral surgeon any day! But if I needed my face putting back together after a car crash......How to find a dentist.
 1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
 2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
 3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
 4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0
