We're looking for a recommendation to eat in Liverpool as well.

It's for a Saturday evening birthday treat (we're mid 40s). So want something you don't get in every city. As Birmingham is our local, would prefer to avoid Indian or Chinese - we can get this at home. I like fish, my OH likes meat.

Anyone got any ideas for the city centre or docks areas?

I remember reading that Liverpool has the UK's only authentic Russian Restaurant - so that'd be guaranteed to be something you don't get in every city :) Have a look at the site I posted earlier, you can search by type of food.

    Found their website here

Thanks for that faded flowers: looks good

I can recommend the Russian resturant I have eaten there many times. The food is superb and the atmosphere is really good too.

The japanese resturant in the same area is also very good.

Not been in to Liverpool for some time but there used to be a cracking Italian place called the Casa Italia, good food, good prices.

When I worked in Liverpool, this was our favourite place for lunch, the food was excellent. Not been there for a few years, so don't know if it's changed hands or anything. Others who have been more recently may be able to comment

Caesar's Palace not so good.....seem to recall they had the health inspectors in recently, and it made the papers.

I'll be your third vote for Kimos on Mount Pleasant. Just up the hill from the Adelphi hotel. Wonderful food - 12" pizza for £4, Kebabs with chips/rice & salad about the same, vast salads, great sandwiches, burgers get good reports from my friends, and there's other authentic turkish/wherever stuff that's pretty nice. Foule Muddamas was a bit weird, but Tabbouleh was gorgeous....

Can you tell I love kimos. Sorry I don't go visit my friends over there more often.

yeah, Caesars Palace has really gone down hill, it used to be lovely but I wouldn't go there now if you paid me! I think they got a bit ahead of themselves when they had good reviews and just let all the standards drop....

  • The restaurant in the basement of the Everyman Theatre is pretty good. All the food uses fresh ingredients and is made on the premises every day. Not bad value either.

Have never had a bad meal - I lived in the 'Pool for 3 years and went fairly often.
