Going back to work Self-Employed with a Mortgage

Going back to work Self-Employed with a Mortgage

Please could anyone help me?

I am unemployed my wife is claiming ESA and is claiming for myself witch will be coming to an end in the next 6 months, I want to work and not go back JSA as in the past.

At the moment I get help with my mortgage and get fortnightly payments of £200 ish from the ESA
My mortgage of £630.00 benefits pay £475 then I have to find the rest.

I am paying £1 a month token payments to my creditors
I get help from cccs & debt advisers for my debt which is under control ish.

I want to start up a web base business as this is where my skills have always been.

My Question is :

If I start working for 16 hours a week self-employed and start claiming for working tax credit
Is there any benefits to help with my mortgage payments.

I want to work but without that little extra help I get from the ESA/Benefits I would not be able to manage.

I will not have an income until my business is up and running 2 to 3 month maybe.

I have spent many hours looking on the tax / benefits web sites but can’t seem to make sense, and wondered if anyone here could help.

I suffer from dyslexia so please excuse my grammar

Thank you in advance
Gary

There is little to excuse. There are far worse people posting on these boards who aren't dyslexic.

You would be best speaking to a benefits advisor or speaking to someone at CAB. My instinct is to say there'd be no help but if your wife is going to continue claiming ESA and the mortgage is in joint names you may get some.

However you'd get tax credits of some form or another to help you and you would still be able to put in a claim for council tax benefit although how much you'd get depends on how much tax credits you're awarded.
