Actually.......my present single induction hob was bought on ebay for £25 and I am now thinking I have it THREE years rather than the two previously thought. It was PRIMA! Do they still exist? And I have had absolutely no problem with it and is used everyday, perched on top of the ordinary ceramic hob.
I have wanted my ceramic hob to be replaced by the 4 ring induction hob for a very long time but they were way too expensive. And all saucepans stay so clean when using the induction and its just a case of wiping the hob with a damp cloth. No home should be without one!

Great minds think alike they say, my induction hob lives on a tray on top of the gas hob, I've had no problem with that and it was only a £35 Lidl one. Yet I look at my sister's £90 one and struggle to work out how to use it LOL. I'm sure there are thousands of happy Beko owners who would assure me that my family/friends' experience is simply a very unfortunate coincidence but we're human, not robot, emotions do play a part in our decision making and that's what means it would be very difficult for me to buy Beko now.

  • Totally agree with you. Ive heard of the prima brand but havent heard of it lately. I got mine as a package deal in B&Q.....the hob and oven for £250. The oven has been perfect too only having to replace the element once. The make was an Arrow oven and the hob has the name Euro Kera on....never heard of in my life.....:rotfl: The best bargain i ever bought :j

Can I just ask a couple of things please as we really need a new hob, I've tested my pans and they seem to be only slightly magnetic would that be enough?

Also I've found the Comet hob code, but can't find that hob on the Comet website, are you usng a code for Asda?
  • i just wanted to say thank you to claire as i have been looking for a new induction hob mine broke just before christmas and i thought i would wait for the sales to see if i could get one cheaper. i have had a single one for about 2 years and i love it, my parents brought me a small halogen oven for christmas as it was only £20 and i have wanted one for ages so with both i can now get rid of my small oven. i was only looking for a single one but at this price i just went for it. i paid £3.95 delivery so that i could have it delivered on thursday as i hate waiting for things to come and i have lots of stuff to do next week and the week after.

Sorry "Rich44" you are of course correct! Some Stainless steel grades are ferrous and are magnetic. However good quality pots and pans are usually made from Austenitic stainless steels which contain nickel and chromium. These are not magnetic and therefore not suitable unless they have the built in ferrous core. Try a magnet on the base. If it sticks it should be okay! :)

The only time i've ever come across stainless steel pans that weren't magnetic at all they were heinously expensive ones and as such I doubt too many people will be using those, well certainly none I know now anyway. But then again I am only a mere peasant myself....

In fact to say all Austenitic steel is non-magnetic is actually incorrect, it all depends on how it's been worked as a general rule by default you are correct but if it has been cold worked in which case they can be magentic too how much so depends on the amount of Nickel in them too.

When it comes back to the Ferrous argument it seems to be one of those cases where you can argue it either way not only for general Stainless Steel but also for Austenitic Stainless Steel as well - nothing in life is ever easy. Best stick the magnets

Oh and as for the Beko comment. I've had 2 Beko cookers which i've passed on to relatives over the past 10 years and currently have a 10 year old Beko Fridge Freezer (not the kind that catch fire) which is still in as new condition despite 3 house moves so be careful in just dismissing a brand because of the name....
  • I have a Indesit VIA640C induction hob and had many problems with the 2 small rings. Engineer came out today. Bad news. The induction milk pan 14cm which is a standard size will never work on the small rings. It is only fractional smaller than the actual ring. However, one of my larger pans which is way too small for the larger rings works. How can they make a hob which won't accept a standard milk pan. Gutted especialy after the rave reviews on Which? and Argos sites. Am I the only one who has to cook on large pans?
