Non resident landlord self assessment or not??

in Cutting tax
Sorry if I haven't posted this in the correct place but I would be grateful for advice regarding slef assessment and paying tax as a non resident landlord.
I realize I am cutting things a bit fine to say the least, in terms of submitting a SA, if applicable.
I've tried finding the answers on the HMRC websit but maybe I'm too stupid to understand! And i've tried calling their helplines but every time I end up sitting on hold for up to 15 minutes.
I would like to find out if I have to make a self assessment, but don't know if the tax year in question is 2010-2011, or 2011-2012. Apologies for sounding so naive.......
I am currently living abroad and rent out my house through a letting agent. I applied for, and was given permission, to receive my rental income with no tax deducted. Form NRL1.
Tenants moved into my home on 27th February 2011 for a 1 year tenancy.
If we're talking about the tax year 2010-2011, then as I see it I am only liable for 1 month (March 2011)
Any advice will be gratefully received.......

Yes you are required to file a self-assessment tax return reporting the entire years income and self-assessing your residence status. Why is this a surprise?0

No, not a surprise. Thanks for your "helpful" response.......0

From what I can see you were given in the answer on your other thread, i.e. you need to Self Assess for 2010-11.
From the property point if view you will need to declare the income and expenses for the period to 5/4/11. But you also need to declare any other income received in 2010-11 be it employment, investment income etc.0 -
As you are simply travelling overseas for an extended period you are still UK resident for UK tax purposes so to avoid pnalties you need to file by 31 January 2012 reporting worldwide income and gains.
You can do this online from anywhere in the world.0 -
Also you will need to register for online filing in sufficient time to get your activation code, as registering on 31 Jan will mean you wont get your code on time and is no excuse for late filing.0
